SMI will rename the building on Volkhonka in the Gallery of new art
State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S.

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow will rename one of its buildings. From November 3, the Art Gallery of Europe and America of the XIX-XX centuries will be called the Gallery of New Art. This was reported to RBC in the press service of the Pushkin Museum.
The renaming is timed to the 20th anniversary of the museum building located on 14 Volkhonka Street.
The gallery presents a collection of French impressionism, post-impressionism and avant-garde of the early XX century. Most of the works, including those of Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, were collected by patrons Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov.
Back in 2006, when the collection of works by Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and artists of the XX century moved to a new building, we could not forget about the history of this part of the museum collection. It is genetically related to the State Museum of New Western Art (GMNZI), which is based on the collections of Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov. Referring to the wording “new art” allows us to emphasize this continuity, explained Alexandra Danilova, head of the department of new Western art of the museum.
In honor of the anniversary of the gallery in the program "Night of Arts" will be guided tours with custodians who will tell about the creation and replenishment of the collection. The string quartet of the Moscow Conservatory will perform works of classics, and curators will conduct special excursions for teenagers and students.
Tickets for the event will be available on the museum’s website starting October 28.
