In Russia, determined the amount of budget places in universities for the next academic year

The authorities approved the volume and structure of budget places for the 2027/28 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Science reported.

The Coordination Council under the Government of the Russian Federation approved the volume and structure of the admission control figures for the academic year 2027/28. The distribution of places between universities will be held on a competitive basis until December 29, the report said.

At least 73% of places will be sent to regional universities, more than half of budget places will be laid for full-time bachelor’s degree and specialty, a third of the volume of admission control figures will be allocated to full-time master’s degree, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Elena Tumakova explained.

Traditionally, the largest number of budget places are set for admission to engineering, natural science, medical and pedagogical specialties, as well as agricultural areas of training.

“Taking into account the forecast of the Ministry of Labor of Russia and the results of the admission campaign in 2026, the volume of budget places for specific groups of specialties aimed at ensuring technological leadership has been increased,” the ministry said.

In particular, mechanical engineering – for 516 places; computer science and computing – for 290 places; clinical medicine – for 283 places; nuclear energy – for 241 places; information security – for 236 places; applied geology, mining, oil and gas and geodesy – for 181 places; equipment and technologies of shipbuilding and water transport – for 124 places; equipment and technologies of land transport – for 96 places.

Until November 1, the volume and structure of the control numbers of admission will be approved by the order of the Ministry of Education.
