In Russia for the first time mined a blue diamond of jewelry quality
ALROSA mined Russia’s first natural gem-quality blue diamond.

ALROSA mined Russia’s first natural gem-quality blue diamond. The crystal weighing 2.74 carats was recovered at the Nakyn kimberlite field in Yakutia, the press service of the company reported.
“The find was the first recorded case of detection of such a diamond in Russian deposits,” said ALROSA. The company is completing the crystal cut and plans to unveil the diamond at the end of November 2026.
The blue diamond type IIb is one of the rarest and most valuable gemstones on the planet. Its color is due to the presence of boron, the atoms of which replace carbon atoms in the crystal lattice of diamond. The find is also distinguished by high purity - it completely lacks internal inclusions, the company said.
The find also confirmed the presence of rare boron-containing diamonds of type IIb in the deposits of the Nakyn kimberlite field. As ALROSA notes, this opens up new opportunities for studying the geological processes of diamond formation in the bowels of the Earth and indicates the presence of rare boron-containing varieties of crystals in the Nakyn ore field in Yakutia.
In July, ALROSA presented a rare lavender diamond worth 125 million rubles. It was made from a diamond mined in Yakutia in 2025. According to experts, the age of the crystal is about 350 million years. After the closure of the Australian Argyle mine in 2020, where 90% of pink diamonds of different shades were mined, diamonds of this color group are extremely rare.
