According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, there were two people on board, believed to be pilots. They faced a technical malfunction and decided to sit on the roadway. Eyewitness Brandon Hinson said the plane descended at an angle, hit the ground in the far left lane, bounced into the middle and then into the turn lane.
County Sheriff Lee Carmine Marceno said, “Fortunately, this incident has had a positive outcome, no one was hurt.” He thanked the emergency services for their prompt work.
The investigation into the accident is conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). After the incident, traffic on the road section was temporarily restricted, and the plane was removed from the roadway.
In July 2025 in the Leningrad region near the village of Tamengont light aircraft urgently landed on the highway A-120. The reason for the forced landing of the aircraft was the failure of the left engine. Four months earlier, a small-engine aircraft landed on the highway in the Vologda region.
