The German city of Bad Duben has put up for sale the 800-year-old Schnaditz castle at a price of €1 in hopes of attracting investors, Bild reported.
Mayor Mathias Meath said the castle is important for the region and Saxony, and he would like to see the building preserved.
Schnaditz Castle is located in the same district of Bad Duben in Saxony. The estimated date of construction is 1237. The area of the castle is 1012 square meters, including living quarters, a knight's hall and two towers. The castle is also adjacent to the park, which was laid out in 1794.
In an interview with mdr, the mayor of the city said that there were many ideas for the restoration of Schnaditz, but they could not be implemented due to bureaucratic costs. “Every little thing you do here must be carefully documented. And that throws [restoration] away for months, if not years, Meath said.
“I can imagine a hotel, a nursing home, a training centre or a boarding school being built there. But we need to take into account the high costs of reconstruction, the mayor said. According to him, the restoration of the castle in total will take at least €20 million.
In June, the estate with the castle of Ansemburg XII century was put up for sale in Luxembourg. The proposed price is €37.5 million. Located in the Valley and the only private castle in Luxembourg, the asking price for it has become the most high-budget offer of a residential property in the history of the country.
