71 MPs call for ban on Russian houses in Europe
Seventy-one MEPs urge EU leaders to stop Russian Houses in EU territory
Seventy-one MEPs called on the leadership of the European Union to stop the work of Russian houses on the territory of the association. The initiator of the appeal was the representative of Lithuania Rasa Juknjaviciene, reports LRT.
The authors of the letter called these institutions centers of Russian influence. They asked the European Commission, the European External Action Service and EU governments to develop a common approach to the activities of such organizations.
According to the publication, Russian houses continue to function in 15 states of the Union. These include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Slovakia and Spain.
Germany has already taken steps to limit the presence of Russian structures. In September, Berlin blamed Moscow for a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle airport on August 4. German authorities announced the closure of the Consulate General of Russia in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. Moscow denied the accusations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in response to the termination of the Berlin center, the offices of the Goethe Institute in Russia will be closed.
The head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov previously reported that after the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, the work of Russian houses was stopped in six countries: Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania.
