The Nobel Foundation announced an increase in the size of the Nobel Prize to 12 million Swedish kroner ($1.2 million), which is 9% more than last year. The Nobel Prizes in various disciplines will be awarded on October 5-12.

“By increasing the size of the prize, we support the long-term significance of the Nobel Prize and ensure that the value of its financial part is maintained over time,” said Hanna Stierne, head of the Nobel Foundation.

In recent years, the size of the monetary reward of the Nobel Prize has changed many times, but the overall growth since the beginning of the XXI century was not too significant. In the early 2000s, the prize amounted to 10 million crowns. In 2012, the amount was reduced from 10 million to 8 million kroner due to financial difficulties. In 2020, it was again raised to 10 million, and in 2023 to 11 million crowns.
