American company-developer of artificial intelligence (AI) Anthropic has created a laboratory for biological research. The company hopes to conduct research in it to use AI in drug development. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources. The company has not officially announced the opening of the laboratory.
The announcement of the opening of the laboratory was confirmed by the head of life sciences Anthropic Eric Kauderer-Abrams. We believe that the basis for work in the field of biology is still and for some time will remain real experiments. Of course, today we are doing this, said Mr. Kauderer-Abrams. I would describe our approach as typical of biotech companies. We combine the development of our own units with what we are working on with external partners.”.
According to Reuters, the test center opened in the Bay area of San Francisco. In addition to real experiments, it will also conduct research using computer simulations.
Anthropic plans to use its Claude chatbot to control robots in lab experiments with minimal human involvement. This method, according to the Agency, helps to accelerate the development of methods of treatment of rare diseases. The company also bought biotech AI startup Coefficient Bio for about $400 million.
