In the center of Moscow, the opening ceremony of the monument to the former mayor of the capital Yuri Luzhkov took place. The monument was placed in the yard at the intersection of Bolshoi Sukharevsky Lane and Sretenka. The ceremony was attended by the widow of the official Elena Baturina.

“When we discussed the creation of this monument, we agreed that it would be a good Moscow monument, without pathos, because Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov was such – kind, Moscow and without pathos,” said Mrs. Baturina, addressing the audience. She thanked everyone who remembers Yuri Mikhailovich.

The author of the monument, sculptor, people’s artist of the Russian Federation Salavat Shcherbakov said that granite and bronze were used for the monument. The figure of an official and a map of Moscow were cast from metal, an amphitheater was erected from granite around – “so that people rest, sit, communicate.”.

Yuri Luzhkov headed the capital in 1992. In 2010, he was dismissed due to the loss of trust of the president. Subsequently, he headed the agro-industrial complex in the Kaliningrad region, bred bees and horses. He died in Munich in 2019.
