Alexander Khinshtein was in an accident on January 22 in the Konyshevsky district of the region. His car skidded on a slippery road and was thrown to the side of the road. The governor suffered a fracture of the femur, as well as a fracture of three ribs and two spinal processes. He was treated at the Kursk Regional Hospital. On September 25, Mr. Hinstein announced that he was undergoing re-rehabilitation.
