In the Leningrad region, according to 2025, lived 8 769 people aged 90+. And this is several hundred more than in the previous two years. Governor Alexander Drozdenko told in his channel “MAKS” how the region supports centenarians.
“I’ll be honest: at this age, it can be difficult for a person to cope with everything on their own – relatives should help,” the governor said. Awareness of regional support will bring that assistance closer.
On the basis of the Vsevolozhsk clinical interdistrict hospital since 2019, the regional geriatric center has been operating. Another 5 geriatric offices at hospitals in the Leningrad region provide primary medical care to elderly people. There, centenarians can undergo examinations of specialists in 1-2 days and receive a full laboratory diagnosis.
Residents of remote settlements who cannot get to the outpatient clinic or FAP on their own are brought to the Health Center for medical examination. A special officer accompanies them in all rooms while they undergo diagnostics and consultations.
Also in the Vsevolozhsk hospital there is a Center for Healthy Longevity Medicine. They conduct comprehensive examinations to identify signs of premature aging, and make a personal health map with recommendations.
We are ready to help elderly people in need of assistance and the social protection service of the population. She can provide a nurse for care at home or in a medical facility. Social workers help the elderly with housework, buy food and medicines.
Also in the region, such an initiative as a “caring neighbor” has long been implemented. This is a service that is provided to lonely elderly citizens and disabled people if they live in hard-to-reach settlements for a social worker. Help is provided by neighbors and receive a small, but still salary.
“Longevity today is not about surviving. This is about living brightly, with dignity and with a careful attitude to health, said Drozdenko. The main thing is to know that support is available: in regional programs, in geriatric offices and at home.
Earlier, “MK in Leningrad region” said that a resident of Tosno Olga Andreevna Varavina celebrated his 101st birthday.
