Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak headed the organizing committee for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and today held its first meeting in Naryan-Mar.

The region will celebrate its anniversary in 2029 – the Decree on the celebration at the federal level was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 25.

The first meeting was attended by the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the NWFD Igor Rudenya, the Governor of NAO Irina Gekht, State Duma Deputy Mikhail Kislyakov, as well as representatives of federal departments, oil companies and public organizations.

Alexander Novak stressed that the anniversary should work for the future: to give people not only a holiday, but also tangible results - new opportunities for work, study, medical care, culture, to preserve the traditional way of life.

The draft plan of main events for the anniversary was presented by Governor Irina Gekht. There are several areas: infrastructure development, improvement, construction of social facilities and cultural and educational projects.

- I'm sure this short three-year marathon will allow all of us to feel the changes that are going to happen in the district. Among the priorities are the reconstruction of the Naryan-Mar-Usinsk road with a bridge over the Kuyu River, the renewal of the runway and the airport terminal. In the social part - a polyclinic in Seekers, kindergartens in Horey-Vera and Oxino. Included in the development of communication in remote settlements. For the district, the century is an opportunity to attract federal assistance to solve issues that have long been facing the region and require large investments, and also an opportunity to preserve what we know about our land and its people – the project includes books about the residents of the district, films about villages and villages, exhibitions, programs to preserve the Nenets language, said Governor Irina Gekht.

Igor Rudenya noted that taking into account the northern climate and seasonality, all work must be done qualitatively and in a short time - for this it is important to attract experienced professional personnel. Special attention should be paid to the social infrastructure that makes life in the North more comfortable.

Now the next step is to agree on all the proposals that will be included in the final plan, as well as determine the timing and sources of funding for each of the projects.
