Almaty festive
September Almaty is especially lively: the city celebrates its day, and concerts, festivals and other festive events are held on the streets

Last weekend, Almaty made a lot of noise with different voices and music – the metropolis celebrated the City Day, and citizens and guests of the southern capital received hundreds of interesting events and a thousand impressions as a gift. About 300 cultural, family, sports and other social activities took place in all districts of Almaty, thanks to which the celebration covered various age and social groups of the city residents.
One of the main concert venues was the old square. Major festivals Almaty Vibes and Almaty Zhuldyzy were held here with the participation of popular Kazakhstani pop artists, dance groups, young performers from among students of creative universities. And the historical facade of the Kazakh-British Technical University, in the building of which the Government House of the Kazakh SSR was previously located, turned into the most spectacular object of the evening program: it broadcasted a multimedia 3D-show created using 3D mapping technology to broadcast a light projection on a large scale, telling the history of Almaty.
And on the Abai Square during a grand open-air concert, popular performers and orchestras performed in the country. Here, during the performances of the ensemble “Dos-Mukasan” and Rosa Rymbayeva, the space turned into a single choir, singing along with its favorite Kazakhstani pop stars.
Abai Square during the holiday was focused on a family audience. It was here that the Otbasy Fest festival was held, combining interactive entertainment for children, creative master classes and cognitive activities for parents. A special interest was caused by the AI & Robot Zone, where guests of the festival could get acquainted with modern digital technologies and robotics.
The Palace of schoolchildren of Almaty also did not stay away from significant events and organized a performance of the consolidated children's choir. The guys with ringing voices performed a new anthem of childhood in front of the palace - this impressive performance was included in the Book of Records of Kazakhstan.
Pedestrian streets of Panfilov and Zhibek Zholy also turned into lively cultural and gastronomic spaces during the celebration of the City Day. Thus, in the program of Alma Qala Fest, which has become a traditional large urban project, residents and guests of the city were able to get acquainted with the local gastronomic culture, creative projects of Almaty residents, and products of Almaty manufacturers. One of the central symbols of the festival was the famous Almaty Aport – more than 200 tons of apples were presented.
Another festival was held in the city - the book Kitap Fest, which brought together readers, domestic authors, publishers and representatives of the literary community. Presentations of books, meetings with writers and other thematic events were organized for visitors. By the way, almost all the books published by Kazakhstani contemporary authors, published in Kazakh and Russian, were sold out.
It is worth noting that festive events took place in all areas of the city, including the most distant ones. But the main events are still distributed in the city center. So, in the Bostandyk district, an updated part of Masanchi Street, stretching from Abai Avenue to Satpayev, was presented. Here, close to the holiday, they managed to complete the restoration of old houses, the first floors of which were transformed into fast food areas and small coffee shops. The street was ennobled with rare species of shrubs and cute examples of landscape design.
The celebration of the City Day coincided with World Cleanup Day, so more than 50 thousand citizens went to clean public spaces and plant trees, including on the territory of the Ayusai Visit Center, where some varieties of conifers were planted.
The holiday program brought together cultural, sports, family and environmental initiatives. Almaty and Almaty residents over the summer tired of ubiquitous landscaping, dust and noise, but the holiday has accelerated the completion of many objects and gave the opportunity to see the beloved city a little new way.
