A 24-ton avocado shipment arrived from Peru. During quarantine phytosanitary control, inspectors noticed a living insect that looked like a dangerous quarantine object. Laboratory studies at the FGBI "ARRIAH" confirmed that this is a polyvorous humpback fly.
This fly is included in the unified list of quarantine objects of the Eurasian Economic Union and is absent in Russia. It spreads rapidly with transport, people and animals.
Note, adult flies carry cholera - a dangerous intestinal infection that causes severe diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. The larvae of the humpback fly can enter the human body with food and cause miazes - parasitic diseases in which larvae develop in tissues and organs. Grown larvae are especially dangerous.
The release of avocados in Russia is prohibited.
Another case of dangerous products has occurred before. In St. Petersburg, 215 tons of Argentine pears with the dangerous Monilinia fructicola virus were not allowed. The fungus does not threaten human health, but if you eat the affected fetus, you can get a digestive disorder. The release of infected pears was not allowed.
