More than 92% of Belarusians are in favor of building good relations with all countries of the world. This was stated by Deputy Director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISI) Vitaly Punchenko on September 23, commenting on the third part of the results of a large-scale comprehensive republican sociological study, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

In July-August 2026 the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus commissioned by the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies. The third part of the results, presented on September 23, deals with topical issues on the international and domestic agenda.
- For the first time in many years of research, peace and security came first. Usually, our citizens pay the most attention to rising prices, inflation, and wages. This year, 55% of respondents said they were concerned about peace and security. This is not accidental, given the situation in the world. Despite geopolitical difficulties, confrontations, Belarusians retain conflict-free thinking and common sense, Punchenko said.
According to the Deputy Director of BISS, 92.6% of respondents support the fact that Belarus should build good relations with all countries of the world, regardless of their contradictions. This shows the political maturity of citizens.
- According to the results of the study, we understand that Belarusians today demonstrate a cultural and value code of peace. This worldview has been shaped for years and decades by the experience of wars, restoration and building relations with neighbors. Historically, Belarus has always been in two modes of existence. The first is the bridge between peoples, the development of trade, cooperation and the development of territories. The second regime is survival. When the war was around, Belarusians were forced to preserve their country and their families. Peace for Belarusians is not just the absence of war, but the possibility of the country’s development.
As Punchenko noted, Belarusians are increasingly in favor of integration with Russia. The study showed that Belarus cannot be separated from Russia. Almost half of Belarusians are in favor of closer relations with this country and building truly fraternal ties.
- There is a trend towards union integration. The citizens of Belarus understand the benefits and advantages that we gain together with the Russians. They especially see advantages in tourism, education and science. The effect of strengthening security in the military and energy spheres is of great importance, the deputy director of BISI said.
He also emphasized that Belarusians have a territorial and generational consensus on foreign policy issues
- According to the results of the study, we see a unity of opinion among our citizens on the strategic priorities of foreign policy. Equally with all the Western Brest and Grodno regions are aimed at cooperation with Russia, China, with the countries of the far arc. There is a consensus on the development of closer relations with these countries. This trend is quite new, but not surprising, because Belarus is a territory of common sense. In the current geopolitical environment, our citizens want to cooperate with countries that are mutually interested in us.
