The number of crimes among teenagers in Belarus decreased by 17%

On October 8, at a press conference on the topic “Nicotinic addiction among minors: about the negative impact on the body and effective measures of prevention”, which was held in the press center of BelTA, said the senior inspector for special assignments of the department of organization of inspections for minors of the Department of prevention of the main Department of law enforcement and prevention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Roman Bardeev, reports sb.by.
At the same time, over 9 months of this year, more than 560 teenagers violated the legal requirements related to the use of tobacco products and electronic smoking systems
According to him, 90 minors used electronic smoking systems. Another 200 children were found floating on the territory of educational institutions and 29 departmental dormitories.
- The popularity of electronic smoking systems among minors remains a serious problem. We established facts when children tried to smoke in primary school, said Roman Bardeev.
One of the main reasons for the spread of vapes among teenagers, the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs called their availability and attractiveness of aromatic additives. Young people mistakenly perceive vaping as legal and safe.
A separate problem is the use of electronic smoking systems as a subject of criminal encroachment. According to the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 80 percent of cases, electronic smoking systems become the subject of criminal encroachment during robberies. According to the analysis, the common scheme is as follows: the seller places an advertisement for the sale of the device in thematic groups, after which the teenagers agree on a meeting. During the transfer of goods, one of the buyers distracts the seller, after which the teenagers run away with the device.
At the same time, experts record the facts of selling vapes to minors. For 9 months of this year, 58 sellers who sold tobacco products and vaping systems to persons under 18 years of age were identified. More than 250 liters of liquid for filling steam generators and more than 6000 devices were withdrawn from circulation.
The sale of tobacco products and electronic vaping systems to minors is prohibited. For such a violation, administrative liability is provided in the form of a fine of up to 20 basic values.
In addition, the use of vapes in educational institutions, health care, administrative buildings, sports facilities, elevators, children's playgrounds, as well as in underground passageways and metro stations is prohibited. Smoking in prohibited places entails a fine of up to 4 basic values.
