What not to do on Mikhailov day: bans and beliefs on September 19

Mikhailov Day is associated with many prohibitions, which in folk tradition were considered important for the preservation of well-being.

It was impossible to work – it was considered a sin, and the violator of the ban risked to start “crazy” and commit acts leading to material losses.

It was forbidden to wash your hair: according to legend, you can wash your mind and memory. It was not recommended to cook dishes from dough and bake pies - it could cause illness.

It was strictly forbidden to lie and deceive - deceivers were in danger of trouble. It was impossible to swear, to conflict and to recall old quarrels: it could lead to new protracted conflicts.

Also, it was not necessary to refuse help, throw out the leftovers of food (it is better to give them to animals), leave the house for a long time, collect blueberries (“blackberry tramples on Michael”), as well as guess and participate in ceremonies – it was believed that this could attract grief and poverty.
