On September 19, the Church honors the memory of the Archangel Michael, one of the most revered biblical characters, and according to the folk calendar, Mikhailov Day is celebrated.
In ancient times, Mikhailov celebrated the day with common feasts - fraternities, to which the whole community gathered. Each family brought pastries, meat and other treats. Such meetings helped to reconcile with those who were in a quarrel.
It was considered important to drive away bad thoughts: the more good things to remember and do, the better the next year will be. People tried to help others - they believed that good will return a hundredfold.
There were also household signs of good luck: to attract the other half, they wore something red. Those who dreamed of wealth were advised to buy a new wallet, preferably red, as a symbol of financial success.
Today, these customs are perceived more as part of cultural heritage, but the idea of “do good and do not hold evil” remains universal.
