Two-thirds of Belarusians feel safe on sidewalks near bicycles and electric scooters. These are the results of a comprehensive republican sociological study on topical issues of the international and domestic agenda.

67.4% of respondents feel safe as pedestrians on sidewalks, given the movement of bicycles, electric scooters and other modern mobile vehicles. At the same time, the opposite point of view is shared by 29% of respondents.

“It is significant that no significant age difference has been found in this regard. In terms of types of settlements, the differences are also minimal. Among citizens, 68 percent of respondents said about safety on sidewalks, among residents of rural areas - 64.9 percent. There are some differences among the regions: pedestrians feel less safe on the sidewalks in Minsk (61.2%) and in Brest region (56.6%). To a greater extent, safety on the sidewalks in Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev regions is noted – over 70 percent, said Nikolai Myslivets, director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Social research was conducted in July - August 2026 by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus commissioned by the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies (BISI). It was attended by 2045 respondents from all regions of the country. The first part of the results of the social research, which deals with topical issues of social and economic development of Belarus, was presented in Minsk on September 10. The second, on socio-political topics, was presented on September 16. Today, on September 23, sociologists shared the results of the third part of the social research on topical issues of the international and domestic agenda.
