The digital trail will not save: what paper documents Russians can not throw away
In the era of cloud storage, we are used to the fact that any data is always in the smartphone. But courts and government agencies still require paper originals.

Lawyer Svetlana Zhmurko told what documents should be kept at home.
Real estate and property
Even if the apartment is registered in the USRN, keep old certificates, contracts of privatization, donation and inheritance. The statement confirms that the house is yours now, and the old papers will prove how it came to you. This is critical in litigation.
Relation and nationality
Birth and marriage certificates are the main proof of kinship for inheritance or benefits. It can be very difficult to restore archival records, especially those issued 30 years ago in the CIS countries.
Experience and pension
Paper work book (for seniority before 2002), diplomas, GPC contracts and certificates of work in the North or “rarely”. If the Social Fund fails, only the originals will save your early retirement.
Finance
Certificates of full repayment of loans and mortgages. They will remove the burden and protect against “suddenly floated” debts. And if you lend a large amount, only a handwritten receipt will return the money through the court.
Important nuances
Keep a technical passport of housing (will help in disputes about redevelopment) and an old house book. It will prove who was registered at the time of privatization, so that you do not buy a “secondary” with a hidden “eternal” tenant.
How to store it?
1. Put everything in one folder and put it in a safe.
2. Get a flash drive scan.
3. Never laminate the certificates of the registry office - they will become invalid.
4. Be sure to tell your loved ones where your “archive” lies.
