Day without a car in Minsk: what awaits citizens on September 21 and 22

Minsk has joined the Mobility Week, which culminates on September 22 with Car-Free Day. About how the capital will hold a large-scale action, said the Chairman of the Minsk city Committee of natural resources and environmental protection Alexander Dragun, the correspondent of the Agency “Minsk-Novosti”.

- Mobility Week is an information campaign that takes place every year from 16 to 22 September. Everything that is done this week should remind citizens about the negative impact of cars with an internal combustion engine on the environment and encourage them to use alternative ways of transportation (public transport, bicycles, electric vehicles), BelTA quotes Dragoon.

In Belarus, the action was first held in 2008, and the capital celebrated the first Day without a car in 2015. The coordinator of the events is the Minsk City Committee of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. According to statistics, the emissions of vehicles account for 85% of all emissions into the air and only 15% – to industrial enterprises of the city, so this year the campaign is held under the motto “Breath clean air of the capital!”.

According to A. Dragun, in all administrative districts of the city will also take place the traditional action “To work on a bicycle”. On the morning of September 21, at nine “vitamin points”, citizens who chose SPM or walking will be able to enjoy fruits for free and receive information materials. The points will be located at the entrance to Loshitsky Park from the street. Mayakovsky, on Zaporozhye Square, at the entrance to the Central Botanical Garden, on Aerodromnaya Street, Prospects of Winners at the Arena-City shopping center, opposite the building on the eve. Dzerzhinsky, 13, Pritytsky St., 93, and opposite the building No. 22/1 on St. Tashkent, as well as in Komarovsky Square.

The Week of Mobility will end on September 22 with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Minsk City Executive Committee and capital enterprises.

The bike race starts at 9:00 from the parking lot of the Aqua-Minsk hotel and ends near the entrance group of the Victory Museum and Park Complex and laying flowers to the Minsk-Hero City stele. The length of the route is about 9 km, Dragun said.

He also reminded that on the Day without a car, September 22, you can use the right of free travel in the subway and in land public transport, presenting a driver's license and passport for the car. Sharing companies annually support environmental initiatives, but the issue of discounts remains at their discretion.
