Joachim and Anna Remembrance Day: what you can and cannot do on September 22
On September 22, Orthodox Christians honor the memory of the holy righteous Our Lady Joachim and Anna, the parents of the Most Holy Mother of God

History of the holiday
Saints Joachim and Anna were childless and reviled for many years, because the absence of children in ancient Israel was considered a punishment of God. "" One day Joachim brought gifts to the Jerusalem temple, but the high priest refused to accept them, saying that he did not give offspring to Israel. The sad elder retired to the desert for prayer. At the same time, his wife Anna prayed fervently.
According to legend, an angel appeared to both of them and announced that they would have a daughter through whom the entire human race would be blessed. Soon a girl was born, who was called Mary - the future Mother of the Savior. That is why Joachim and Anna are called Ouro-Fathers, and the day of their memory is the feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God.
In folk tradition, this day was called Podnesenev Day - from the word "offering", as it was customary to visit young spouses with gifts. It was also called the Day of Birthday and the Day of Akim and Anna, and the saints were considered assistants and patrons of mothers and childless couples.
