Tolstoy's house near Tula will be closed for winter to seal windows and install frames
From 10 to 19 November 2026, visitors will not be able to enter the House of Leo Tolstoy in Yasnaya Polyana

From 10 to 19 November 2026, visitors will not be able to enter the House of Leo Tolstoy in Yasnaya Polyana. At this time, the staff of the museum-estate will prepare the building for the winter: they will conduct wet cleaning, remove dust from surfaces and objects, install second window frames and seal the windows, listed “MK in Tula” in the press service of the cultural institution.
As explained by the curator of the House of Tolstoy Hope Pereverzeva, regular preventive work allows you to preserve the historic building and open it to visitors a century after the beginning of the museum. Thanks to this, guests can see the atmosphere of the house where the creator of the novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina lived.
During the closing, visitors will continue to conduct excursions around the reserve. You can independently get acquainted with the sights of Yasnaya Polyana with the help of an audio guide: a descendant of the writer Vladimir Tolstoy tells about significant places.
Guests will also be able to visit the Yalapolyansk stable. To do this, you need to buy a ticket for the tour in advance. In addition, in the House of Volkonsky will be opened the exhibition “I took Tanya, reshuffled her with Sonya, and Natasha came out.” To the 180th anniversary of Tatiana Kuzminskaya.
Tolstoy's house is closed for preventive work twice a year - in spring and autumn, before the start of the summer and winter seasons. The main task of specialists is to preserve the building as it was during the life of Lev Nikolaevich.
We will remind, earlier “MK in Tula” reported that in Yasnaya Polyana organize classes on the writing techniques of Leo Tolstoy. The first meetings are scheduled for November 7 and 21, 2026 in the literary cafe "Steve" of the cultural and exhibition complex "L.N.T." on Metallistov Street, 25, in Tula.
Participants will analyze the digitized drafts of the hunting scene from the novel War and Peace and follow how the author reworked the text from the first version to the final version. Then they will try to use Tolstoy's techniques in their own works.
