Confidence in Belarusian state media grows – data from NASB Institute of Sociology

The level of trust in the state media in Belarus is growing. Such data were cited by Nikolai Myslivets, director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BelTA reports. He presented the results of a large-scale republican sociological study, which studied the attitude of citizens to key topics of both domestic and international agendas.

The level of trust of Belarusians in the state media remains high: according to data, 63.8% of the population prefer it. This reflects the sustained demand of society for information that is distinguished by reliability and quality.

Grodno region stands out especially - there the confidence indicator reaches 87.6%, becoming the highest in the republic. At the same time, in other regions, the values are distributed fairly evenly.

According to Myslivets, long-term experience of sociological research suggests that the level of trust in state media in Belarus is consistently increasing. This indicates that such media are becoming more popular and in demand among the Belarusian audience.

Trust in the media is based on the confidence of the audience that the published information is true. According to the director of the Institute of Sociology, the results of a large-scale sociological study demonstrate a high level of trust in state media. This is because society is in dire need of reliable, unbiased and informative news reporting.

In the era of global information instability, when fake news and methods of influencing public consciousness are spreading especially actively, Belarusians – be they TV viewers, readers or Internet users – seek to receive verified information about events inside the country and abroad.

Belarusian journalism and the media environment as a whole effectively counter external information threats, including reacting to the blocking of state media resources on the YouTube platform, which experts consider unreasonable.

  1. 1.YouTube blocks three Belarusian radio stations
  2. 2.Live broadcast of STV disrupted: YouTube blocked the channel

According to the director of the Institute of Sociology, the demand for state media among the Belarusian audience is explained by the development of author journalism, a wide range of topics covered, an emphasis on analytical materials, as well as the regular involvement of specialists from various fields in discussing current events. All this makes state media a key platform for obtaining objective information.
