As stated by the head of Save the Chimps Ana Paula Tavares, the premises for the animals were reliably protected on a hill. Some staff remained on the 150-acre property to provide care.
Operations director Mark Johannan said the canals overflowed and flooded internal roads. The vehicle broke down.
One chimpanzee, 38-year-old Caleb, remained in the water-cut area. Employees used a drone to deliver food and blankets to him. The video showed Caleb chewing a banana from a dropped bag and then climbing a rope through the flooded site.
