Ex-adviser to the head of Komi Alexander Zarubin sentenced
10 years of imprisonment in prison and a fine of 1.5 million rubles received Zarubin.

Syktyvkar city court on October 12 sentenced a former adviser to the head of the Republic Alexander Zarubin. The ex-official was found guilty of committing fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and money laundering (Article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the totality of the crimes committed, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a colony and a fine of 1.5 million rubles. The measure of restraint against him remained unchanged.
The financial consequences for Zarubin were more significant than the estimated prison term. The court decided to recover from him more than 800 million rubles received by criminal means, and fully satisfied the claim of Komi holding company for 63 million rubles. The lawsuit of the Republican Ministry of Property was left without consideration.
In addition, the court deprived the convicted person of the title “Honorary Worker of the Republic of Komi”. As an interim measure, the seizure of his property, including a collection of 95 hours worth 135 million rubles, was retained.
For comparison, during the court debates, the state prosecution requested for Zarubin 13 years of imprisonment and a fine of 242.8 million rubles, as well as recovery of damage in the “case of Gaiser” – 64 million rubles and 1.4 billion rubles for various episodes.
The defense insists on the complete innocence of the former adviser. According to the lawyer, the international search was fictitious, since the whereabouts of Zarubin was known. The defence requested that the defendant be acquitted with the right to rehabilitation and intends to appeal the verdict.
