Experts estimated the growth of Internet speed in Russia after the launch of 5G

After the launch of 5G, the speed of mobile Internet in Russia increased compared to LTE, but the growth remains moderate. In particular, MegaFon reported an increase of 18-20%. A more noticeable acceleration is expected after the network switches to allocated frequencies.
According to Vedomosti, from September 11, fifth-generation networks began to work in Russia. Now they are presented in Non-Standalone mode, that is, they use LTE infrastructure.
Representatives of MegaFon said that the average increase in speed at operating frequencies is 18-20%. According to Beeline, at some points the figure can reach 30%. T2, citing a study by DMTel in Yekaterinburg, told about the speed of up to 644 Mbps. The representative of the operator stressed that the three companies that launched 5G there, the indicators start from 360 Mbps. MTS expects higher speeds after the launch of networks in the range of 4.9 GHz.
According to TelecomDaily, based on user measurements, the average speed after the advent of 5G has increased by about 15%. Experts attribute the limited increase to the fact that the technology is still running on LTE frequencies.
In the first phase, commercial 5G networks were launched in 16 cities. MTS, Beeline, T2 and MegaFon received a range of 4.63-4.99 GHz, which will be used as infrastructure develops.
The Ministry noted that the actual speed depends on the load on the base station, the distance to it and the quality of the coverage. The transition to a standalone 5G architecture and dedicated frequencies should be gradual.
