Frigate in the garden: pensioner from Pinsk built a 15-meter ship in the yard of the house
Pensioner from Pinsk built a three-storey frigate in the yard of the house

As a child, you believe that all dreams come true. If they don’t, then the time hasn’t come yet. The hero of our next plot all his life dreamed of the sea. But it didn't work out! But now - in retirement - he has his own three-masted frigate. Not a toy model, but the size of a three-storey house.
A resident of Pinsk did not wait for his dream on the shore, he built it with his own hands. Yes! You can't put it on the water, but is that what matters? The ship became a local landmark. Not enough sails, maybe. Not scarlet, but pink. Like the color of flamingos, which once in his youth I saw in the zoo and remembered for life. And the captain dreams of building a real lighthouse in Pinsk. After all, the city has always been famous for its river navigation.
The dream of his own ship appeared at Grigory Kosko in school years. And the older he got, the stronger the fascination with shipbuilding became. Therefore, after retirement, I firmly decided that you can no longer postpone your dream. So in the yard of his own house grew a real war frigate.
Grigory Kosko: Weak in the Navy did not take. Never. The guys were courageous, never afraid, never afraid, walked like on the ground on a ship. That was my motivation; that's why I built the ship.
It took four years to work. Inspiration was the frigate “Apostles Peter and Paul” – its layout is still stored behind this glass. His master made it with his own hands. And then I took the idea to a completely different scale. It turned out 15 meters in length, five in width and almost three floors in height. And all this in the middle of the private sector, behind a small fence.
First, Grigory received oral permission in the city executive committee. Then a frame appeared in the yard - gradually the usual site began to take on the outlines of something grand. Neighbors joke: the frigate seemed to moor right under their windows. As a result, the object was registered as a summer kitchen in the form of a ship. And its internal content has become a separate, long-term history.
For decor, he used putty, stones, foam and foam blocks. I found the forms from the pictures in the library. And some ideas, admittedly, came even in his dreams – sometimes he got up in the middle of the night to make sketches. Here, every detail appeared not for the sake of expensive repairs, but to create a special atmosphere of a real ship.
Maxim Vecherkov, correspondent: The first floor is decorated as a real hold. Sharks, dolphins, whales, rays and even skeletons settled in it. You find yourself here – and it’s like stepping from an ordinary Pin courtyard right into the scenery of an adventure film.
Everything is thought out to the smallest detail – down to the underwater world. And getting past such a space, of course, is difficult. Groups of students come here one after another. But the owner always emphasizes: this is not a tour! No paid services - just an opportunity to show your passion to those who are really interested.
Once, Grigory Vasilyevich himself was also a young lover of marine themes. And so enthusiastic that he came to the military enlistment office and asked for the Navy. Served in a submarine. I wanted to continue to connect my life with the sea, but in those years I had to help my parents and I had to return home. The frigate is divided into several zones. There's a galley and cabins. The owner can show the ship and talk about it for hours. Most importantly, they listen to him. And today, the captain clearly does not intend to be harsh.
The first years the owner devoted to the construction of 12-14 hours. With the installation of masts helped children, and only once needed the help of friends. Everything else is on him. Here Grigory is both a designer, a designer, and a captain.
Nikita Zaychikov, a student of the school No6 in Pinsk: “I have seen so many films about pirates, read books – and here it seems that I am in this book or film.” Like the real thing.
It is noteworthy that the pensioner did not just collect a set of marine attributes here. He came up with whole storylines. For example, a treasure chest is kept in the captain's cabin. For anyone who has ever imagined themselves as a pirate, this is enough.
Grigory Kosko is a hereditary furnace in the third generation, he gave his favorite business more than a dozen years. Perhaps that is why he is able to make something completely unexpected out of ordinary things. And today he is happy to conduct master classes on his favorite topic: shows how to knit sea knots and how to become a real sailor, even with a mop in his hands.
Alla Zub, teacher of the school No6 in Pinsk: This is unusual. That's great. It's amazing. With his own hands, in his own garden, he created such splendor.”.
But the completion of a large-scale project is not yet in question. The captain still has plans and ideas.
Grigory Kosko: I don’t know how much my ship is worth. I don't want to know! I never counted the money whether I had it or not. He didn't even write anything down or count anything. It's easier and easier to live and sleep. Everything moves me from the inside out. Let the city rejoice, children, visitors - let them come.
Sometimes you can change the usual urban landscape not with large-scale projects, but with patience, idea and willingness to bring it to the end. And not only that the construction site was watched by neighbors and residents, and photos of the ship quickly spread on social networks, it has long ceased to be just a hobby of its creator and has become a recognizable part of the city. The frigate looks especially spectacular in the evening, when the lights are lit and among the usual Pinsk streets there really is a feeling that a large sea vessel docked here.
No, the cafe won't be here. The captain intends to continue heading to the sea. Grigory Kosko has already proposed to the Executive Committee to build a lighthouse 25 meters high – with an observation deck and the coat of arms of Pinsk. And while the authorities are thinking, the main project of this master is already standing here – in the courtyard of an ordinary house. And perhaps this ship is enough to understand that for a big dream it is not necessary to have a large shipyard. Sometimes enough skillful hands and boundless enthusiasm.
