The Ministry of Natural Resources of Zaporozhye region will eliminate environmentally hazardous objects in the region within the framework of the federal project "General cleaning" of the national project "Environmental well-being".
The goal of the project is the systematic elimination of accumulated environmental damage: the elimination of abandoned industrial sites, landfills and places of storage of toxic waste.
The work is carried out in stages: first, problem areas are identified and their degree of danger is assessed, then a survey is carried out - soil, water and air samples are taken, waste classes and pollution volumes are determined. After that, the project documentation is prepared with a description of the technologies of neutralization, export logistics, security measures and recultivation. All projects are subject to state expertise and interdepartmental selection, and the implementation begins with the availability of funding.
In the Zaporozhye region, the approach is adapted to local conditions: potentially contaminated areas are examined (including near former industrial facilities), they are categorized and a register of the most dangerous ones is formed. Now two sites are in priority - in Melitopol and Berdyansk.
Federal and regional agencies coordinate the process, which allows taking into account both environmental and socio-economic factors.
One of the main goals of the project throughout the country is to eliminate by 2030 at least 50 of the most dangerous objects of accumulated harm. In the future, the liberated territories plan to either return to economic circulation, or equip as safe public and recreational spaces.
