The adoption of the new version of Directive No. 1 due to new challenges to public safety

The adoption of the new version of Directive No. 1 is due to the presence of new challenges and threats to the public security of our state. This was stated today, October 7, the Prosecutor General of Belarus Dmitry Gora, answering questions during a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, at which parliamentarians heard information from the Prosecutor General on the results of their activities.

Dmytro Gora noted that the updated version of Directive No. 1 noted the priority areas for ensuring public safety:
Dmytro Gora noted that the updated version of Directive No. 1 noted the priority areas for ensuring public safety:

- Among them are combating crime, preventing offenses, countering extremism and drug trafficking. For the most part, these are the areas in which the prosecutor's office carries out daily, hourly supervision. We have always followed public safety legislation. Therefore, there will be nothing new in the work of the prosecutor in giving them the powers to control and implement the Directive, except that in accordance with the decision of the Head of State, the prosecutor’s office is entrusted with control. Outside of oversight, this will only come out in terms of performance evaluation. But, frankly, feeling the prosecutor’s supervision, feeling the supervision of compliance with the legislation, the question of the effectiveness of the supervised agencies remained. Therefore, I think that it will be absolutely easy for prosecutors to adjust to this area of work.

The Prosecutor General of Belarus stressed that the execution of the instructions of Directive No. 1 is entrusted to the Government, executive authorities, as well as prosecutors. To date, the Government has already developed projects, plans and measures to implement Directive No. 1, according to which specific measures are defined and responsible executives are appointed for their implementation.

- In accordance with this plan, work will be carried out on the implementation of the Directive and, accordingly, the control of the implementation of the requirements of Directive No. 1 will be carried out in accordance with this plan, said Dmitry Gora. “It is impossible to live abroad, ready to be punished.” Prosecutor General about the appeals of Belarusians who went abroad
