Recently, snacks with sharp and spicy tastes are actively conquering the international market and are becoming popular in various countries, including the Eurasian Economic Union. They are presented on retail shelves and marketplaces. Consumers are attracted by unusual tastes and textures, bright packaging.
Control of the safety of snacks and soy snacks sold on the market of our country is carried out by regional inspections of the State Standard on an ongoing basis. So, since the beginning of 2026, more than 600 types of imported snack products have been controlled, the State Standard introduced the course of affairs.
What did they find? First, non-compliance with mandatory labeling requirements. For example, there was no information on the functional purpose of the food additives indicated in the snacks. There were no inscriptions about the presence of sweeteners in the composition: “contains sugars and sweeteners”, “with a sweetener”, “contains a sweetener”.
Secondly, violations of the requirements of the EAEU technical regulations on safety indicators were recorded. Thus, in the production of products, manufacturers used food additives that are unacceptable for this product: sweeteners (neogesperidin dihydrochalcone (E959), aspartame (E951), sucralose (E955), neotam (E961), cyclamate (E952), saccharin (E954), sodium isoascorbate antioxidant (E316).
- It should be noted that sweeteners are not recommended for people with certain chronic diseases. In addition, they can affect the intestinal microflora, cause increased appetite, provoking a feeling of hunger and craving for carbohydrates, the State Standard stressed.
Thirdly, there are cases of sales of products without existing conformity assessment documents. Products that do not meet the mandatory requirements of the EAEU technical regulations are prohibited for sale, and products that can cause harm to life and health of people are prohibited for import and circulation in Belarus.
- In 2026, more than 60 snacks are prohibited for import and circulation in the Belarusian market, Gosstandart said.
Up-to-date information on the prohibited names of snack products is posted in the state information resource "Dangerous Products", as well as in the Telegram channel of the State Standard "Safety and Quality".
State Standard recommends consumers to carefully study the labeling of purchased products. The main landmark is the presence of the EAU sign, which confirms the passage of mandatory procedures for assessing compliance with the requirements of the EAEU technical regulations. In addition, the packaging should contain information in Russian (Belarusian) on the name of the product, the name and location of the manufacturer, the composition, date of manufacture and shelf life of the product, the conditions of its storage.
