Governor of Smolensk region held a meeting with rectors of universities on scientific and technological development of the region

As part of the tasks set by President Vladimir Putin to achieve technological sovereignty, the meeting summed up the results of the admission campaign of 2026 and identified key technological niches for regional universities.

Reception campaign results:

Of the 3,300 graduates of the 11th grades of the region, more than 1,600 entered Smolensk universities (almost 50%), which exceeds the figures of previous years.

Specialization of universities of the Smolensk region:

Artificial intelligence in unmanned aircraft systems and the creation of digital twins for tourism.

SSMU: analysis of big data in medicine.

Smolensk GSA: breeding of flax-dolgun, genomic selection of animals and the use of neural networks to predict yields.

- Branch of NRU "MEI": intelligent management systems in the energy industry.

Branch of Financial University: development of solutions for creative tourism and digital heritage.

Gagarin Interuniversity Campus:

The implementation of the project on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation in the framework of the national project “Youth and Children” continues. The campus will become a single research and educational platform for the five leading universities in the region (Smolensk State University, SSMU, SSHA, branches of MPEI and Financial University).

The main goal of the regional authorities is the development of the school-university system and the strengthening of scientific competencies so that graduates receive a popular education and remain employed at enterprises of the Smolensk region.
