Irkutsk Polytechnic and Baikal Museum of SB RAS will introduce a digital “Environmental Assistant”

At the International Baikal Ecological Congress, IRNITU and the Baikal Museum of SB RAS signed an agreement and a license agreement on the implementation of the software product “Environmental Assistant of Baikal”. Since 2025, the project has been developing the Baikal AI Center on the basis of scientific materials of the museum. This is reported by the press service of the university.

The development solves two tasks at once: it helps researchers collect data about nature and offers visitors an interactive format for studying the unique flora and fauna of the lake. In particular, with the help of artificial intelligence (for example, through the MAX messenger), guests can recognize Baikal plants and receive visualized answers to questions.

According to the management of the university and the museum, the introduction of the assistant will create a large-scale digital encyclopedia of the Baikal biota and make the institution one of the leaders in the field of digital environmental education.
