October 9 marks the 127th anniversary of the birth of Taisia Ivanovna Shuvandina, a famous Ivanovo weaver who became one of the participants in the birth of the Stakhanov movement. About her life path told the project “Brands of Russia”.
Shuvandina was born in 1899 on the territory of the Kostroma province, and in childhood, together with her family, moved to Ivanovo-Voznesensk. From the age of ten, she worked as a nanny, and in 1915 she got a job in a factory. Later she worked at the company named after Fedor Zinoviev, where she proved herself as an initiative worker and an innovator of production.
Over three decades of work at looms, Shuvandina contributed to the development of the textile industry and became a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In 1957, she published a book of memoirs “From Darkness to Light”. Memories of the Ivanovo weaver”. In 1971, she was awarded the title of honorary citizen Ivanov.
Taisiya Shuvandina died in 1973. In the same year, the District Street in Ivanovo was renamed in her honor.
