How citizens assess their financial situation and what trends prevail in society, said the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Finance.

How citizens assess their financial situation and what trends prevail in society, said Deputy Director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies Vitaly Punchenko at the presentation of the results of the republican sociological study on topical issues of social and economic development of Belarus, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.
First of all, the expert noted that the economic mood in Belarus is moderately optimistic.
Citizens recognize and appreciate the results of the social policy of the state. With all the nuances assess their financial situation and the level of development of the country as quite acceptable. It is noteworthy that the villagers appreciate the material well-being of their families a little higher than the residents of Minsk, Punchenko said.
The second trend, he said, is rational hard work.
- Citizens value their workplace, are ready to work hard, but if they see a measurable result: decent earnings, professional self-realization. At the same time, there is a significant part of people, including young people, who value their free time and comfort, the Deputy Director of BISI noted.

He further noted the financial prudence and thrift of citizens.
Belarusians rationally distribute their income, count money. A third of respondents use installment or credit options. Approximately the same makes cash savings in Belarusian rubles. The study recorded a significant difference in currency preferences for accumulation in favor of the Belarusian ruble, Punchenko said.
The fourth trend reflects the formula of life values of Belarusians: health, family, prosperity, spiritual comfort, love and harmony.
- It is noteworthy that entertainment and status are not an important indicator of the quality of life of our citizens. Interesting work, humanity, help to people are more appreciated, the deputy director of BISI emphasized.
V. Punchenko also noted that the trend towards urbanization is still relevant in Belarus. The main motives for moving to a large city or capital for citizens are the opportunity to earn more, improve housing conditions, get an education and profession. For some citizens, accessible infrastructure is important.
At the same time, demographic attitudes are still restrained.
Most people plan to have one or two children. At the same time, ideally, a fairly large part of the population is ready for large numbers of children. At the same time, citizens value the personal development of their children, the expansion of opportunities for obtaining a good education, a promising profession, Punchenko said.
The Deputy Director of BISI noted that Belarusian citizens love their country and want to live in their homeland. Among the main goals of their trip abroad, Belarusians call tourism, rest, visiting relatives, temporary work. The study also showed the friendly attitude of Belarusians to all nationalities, the desire for good neighborliness.
Belarusians are proud of their country. The study shows a diverse palette of objects of national pride, the expert stressed.
In July - August 2026, the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus commissioned by BISI conducted a comprehensive republican sociological study. It was attended by 2,045 respondents from all regions of the country.
