How to quickly find a way out of an unfamiliar building according to the evacuation plan: simple tips from the Ministry of Emergency Situations
If you are in an unfamiliar building, an evacuation plan will help you quickly and safely leave the premises in the event of a fire.
If you find yourself in an unfamiliar building and need to navigate quickly in an emergency, an evacuation plan will help. This is a special scheme, where all exits, places of fire extinguishing equipment and the order of action in case of fire are marked. How quickly to find a way out in an unfamiliar building tells the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The document is developed taking into account the requirements of the Decree of the Ministry of Emergency Situations No. 82 of 21.12.2021 "On ensuring fire safety" - this ensures the clarity and reliability of the designations for all visitors.
To quickly navigate the evacuation plan in an unfamiliar building, immediately highlight three key elements on the scheme:
Your location. This is a yellow-and-black mark with the caption “You are here” – it shows where you are relative to the exits and corridors of the building.
Main escape routes. They are designated solid green lines with arrows - these are the shortest and safest ways to the main exits.
Spare routes. They are shown with dotted green lines with arrows and lead to alternative exits – they are used if the main path is blocked due to fire or smoke.
The directions indicated on the plan are duplicated in the premises: in the corridors and halls there are glowing green placards with signs and inscriptions “EXIT”.
If the alarm system works, you need to immediately begin the evacuation - to move strictly along these green signs in the direction of the flights of stairs.
It is important to remember that in case of fire it is absolutely impossible to use the elevator.
