How to update the Museum of defense of the Brest fortress, said the Director of the complex

The Museum of Defense of the Brest Fortress plans to make repairs and re-exposition. This was told by the Director of the memorial complex “Brest fortress-hero” Alexander Korkotadze, writes BelTA.

- We are afraid to some extent of our plans, but the memorial must move on. It is one of the intensively developing museum complexes in Belarus. We saw that the Brest Fortress Defense Museum needs repair and restoration work. It is necessary to modernize the heating and communication system. Of course, the re-exposition of the Defense Museum is being discussed, Alexander Korkotadze said.

Brest residents over the years have accumulated enough materials that can be presented in the exposition. In particular, there were new photos, memories of the defenders of the fortress. During the re-exposition, it is planned to rely on classical approaches, using new technologies in museum business.

- The main concept of the exposition is a story about the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress through the fate of individual defenders. We'll keep it. We count on the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Union State in financing these expensive but much-needed works. We hope that by the 90th anniversary of the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress in 2031 we will be able to open these expositions, the director of the memorial complex emphasized.

The preparatory period is now in progress. Specialists need to make an assessment of the current state of the building and premises of the museum, an analysis of the funds and exposition.

- This is a strategic project for the future, it is the most important and complex. A smaller scale is also in the plans. Every year we will add something new: excursions, exhibitions, Alexander Korkotadze continued.

In the city above Bug, on November 4-6, events are held dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex and the 70th anniversary of the Defense Museum. A round table was organized for the anniversary events, in which historians, researchers, museum specialists from Belarus, Russia, Slovenia take part. The presentation of the book “Speaks Brest Fortress” took place.

- It was very important for us to consider the topic of museumification, preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War, the issues of preserving the Brest Fortress as a historical and cultural value of Belarus, the process of joining UNESCO. We received an invitation to the Congress dedicated to the cultural heritage of the CIS countries, which will be held in December in Moscow. We will participate, added the director of Brest Hero Fortress.
