Today is the Day of fight against thrombosis. This annual international event is dedicated to one of the most serious and underestimated threats to human health. Thrombosis is the basis of heart attacks, strokes and venous thromboembolism.

The first World Thrombosis Day was held at the initiative of the International Society. According to statistics, more than a million people die annually from vascular thrombosis.

In this regard, people want to learn more about the symptoms, risks and ways to prevent thrombosis.

In Russia these days, a large-scale All-Russian Congress with international participation is held, which annually gathers thousands of specialists, representatives of leading medical centers and scientific organizations. Its program includes scientific sessions, master classes, discussions on the most complex issues of antithrombotic therapy.

This year, the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis has focused on women, as they are at increased risk of venous thromboembolism due to reproductive cycles, hormonal changes, pregnancy and menopause.

“Prevention of thrombosis in women is not an abstract theory, these are specific algorithms that save lives every day,” said Alexander Makatsaria, a member of the organizing committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was he who devoted his career to the study of thrombosis in obstetrics and gynecology.
