Kalujans told about the traditions of the Beekeeper
Orthodox Caludians honor the memory of St. Savvatius Solovetsky

Orthodox Caludians honor the memory of St. Savvatius Solovetsky. The saint lived at the end of the XIV - the first half of the XV century.
First he took tonsure in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, and then moved to the Valaam monastery on Lake Ladoga. When Savvatius learned about the uninhabited Solovetsky Island in the White Sea, he asked the abbot for his blessing to settle there. First, together with the monk Herman, they settled near the Sekirnaya Mountain, hoisting a cross and building a cell.
The monk died on September 27, 1435. His relics were transferred to the chapel of the Transfiguration Cathedral.
In the national calendar, the day is called Savvaty Beekeeper, since the honey harvest season ends, and beekeepers prepare hives for winter.
Today it is customary to complete the preparation of hives, bake honey gingerbread, and give crumbs from them to birds.
As reported by “MK in Kaluga” earlier, the Kaluga residents were told what to pray to the “apostle of love”.
