In 1696, on this day at the insistence of Peter I, the Boyar Duma adopted a historic resolution “Sea vessels to be”. This date is recognized as the official date of founding of the fleet in Russia.
In particular, the Azov Fleet was created to fight Turkey for access to the Black Sea, and then the Baltic, Pacific, Northern, Black Sea Fleets and the Caspian Flotilla appeared.
Note that on the last Sunday of July in Russia celebrate Navy Day.
