Kharitonov Day October 11, 2026: why was considered dangerous, what can and cannot be done, signs
On October 11, 2026, Orthodox believers remember St. Chariton the Confessor, Bishop of Iconia

History of the holiday
Saint Chariton lived in the III-IV centuries in Iconia, a city in Asia Minor. During the persecution of Christians under the emperor Aurelian, he was captured, brutally beaten and thrown into prison, but he did not renounce his faith and was released only under the emperor Tacitus.
After his release, Chariton went to Jerusalem. On the way, he was captured by robbers and locked in a cave, intending to later kill. Salvation came miraculously: the snake crawled into the cave and poisoned the wine in the vessel. The robbers drank it and died, but Chariton survived.
Taking this as a sign from above, he stayed in the same cave and built a church there. Over time, the Pharaoh Lavra was formed around it, the first monastic abode in the Judean desert. Later, Chariton founded two more laurels and composed the rank of monastic tonsure. He died in old age, surrounded by his students.
