Chinese experts for the first time corrected the bite of a giant panda using orthodontic technique used in the treatment of humans

Chinese experts for the first time corrected the bite of a giant panda using an orthodontic technique used in the treatment of humans. The procedure was carried out by a male named Bexi, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The panda was born in 2022 and suffered a jaw injury shortly after birth. Due to the damage, the animal developed an asymmetry of the lower jaw, which could make it difficult to chew bamboo and pose a threat to its life.
The treatment was carried out by specialists of the Center for the Study and Breeding of Big Pandas in Chengdu together with doctors of the West Chinese Dental Hospital.
The technique allowed to adjust the position of the lower jaw and restore the function of bite and chewing. According to the agency, after treatment, they returned to normal.
Xinhua notes that this is the first such orthodontic procedure performed on a rare animal.
