During the official visit of the Belarusian delegation to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalia Kochanova met with Chairman of the Council of Nations of the Parliament of Algeria Azuz Nasri, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.
Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich took part in the negotiations on September 17, as well as representatives of other ministries, departments and leading domestic enterprises.
The official program was opened by a meeting of the heads of the upper houses of parliaments in a tete-a-tete format. The speakers discussed the key priorities of the bilateral agenda and compared positions on sensitive issues of international politics. Then the negotiations continued in an expanded format.
Speaking to the participants of the meeting, N. Kochanova stressed that a powerful impetus to interstate relations was given by the historic visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in December 2025 to Algeria. Parliamentarians and the executive branch immediately began implementing the provisions of the joint statement and the roadmap for cooperation.
- The President of Belarus has repeatedly noted that Algeria is the global gateway to Africa. The potential of our countries is huge, and in the coming years we must reach the level of trade turnover of $ 500 million. We are ready to develop industrial cooperation projects, supply high-quality machinery and food products, cooperate in the field of pharmaceuticals and strengthen direct contacts between the regions, said BelTA.
The Belarusian side will be ready to work out counter proposals for the import of Algerian fruits, dates and other products.
In turn, A. Nasri confirmed the focus on full-scale expansion of trade and economic relations, called Belarus a reliable partner, and also stressed the role of parliaments in creating a comfortable legal environment for business.
Parliamentary dialogue should serve as a reliable support for business circles. We are ready to provide full legislative assistance to increase commodity flows, develop industrial cooperation and build long-term economic ties, he said.
