Puffy cats may look cute, but being overweight for pets is a serious problem. The veterinary service of the Kaliningrad region reminded that obesity develops due to overeating and lack of activity and can significantly worsen the health of the pet.

Being overweight increases the risk of various diseases. Animals may have problems with joints and bones, diabetes mellitus, diseases of the heart and respiratory system, urination disorders, skin diseases and even some types of cancer. In addition, obesity increases the risks during operations and the use of anesthesia.

The basis for the prevention and treatment of obesity experts call proper nutrition and sufficient physical activity. The rate of feed is better selected taking into account the characteristics of a particular animal and, if necessary, consult a veterinarian.

Food should not be left in a bowl for the whole day. Also, you do not need to give food every time the cat meows near the bowl, and you should not treat the pet with food from the table or feed it while cooking.

Experts also do not recommend mixing industrial feed with natural food. The diet of the animal is better to choose in advance and adhere to the established norm.

For the health of the animal requires an active lifestyle. Cats love to play, explore the surrounding space and interact with the owner, so stroking and regularly filling the bowl is not enough.
