Space vacuum cleaner canceled: scientists estimated the risk of falling Earth into a black hole

Our planet does not risk being dragged into a black hole, even if such a gravitational object hypothetically arose right in the center of the solar system in the place of our star. As explained by the researcher of the Astrospace Center FIAN Vyacheslav Avdeev, in such a fantastic scenario on Earth would come eternal darkness and extreme cold, but from the usual orbit of the planet will not disappear, reports RIA Novosti.
The expert dispelled the common misconception about black holes as omnivorous funnels that destroy everything in their path. If the Sun were to shrink to a sphere just six kilometers in diameter, its gravitational mass would remain unchanged, meaning the Earth would continue its standard annual rotation along the same trajectory.
The only real theoretical threat would be a flyby of a wandering black hole that could destabilize planetary orbits with its gravity. However, the researchers emphasize that the chances of such a fateful encounter among the hundred million wandering objects in our galaxy tend to zero and go far beyond the lifetime of the entire universe.
