Crimeans warned about a fraudulent scheme with investments on dating sites

Attackers meet people online, talk about income from investments and offer help to get money or code from SMS. This scheme was reported by associate professor of the Financial University under the government of the Russian Federation Peter Shcherbachenko, reports NEWS.ru.

According to the expert, fraudsters may offer to register at an allegedly verified investment platform or ask for help with the transfer. To do this, they try to get a code from the SMS or other data from the interlocutor.

“The main thing for fraudsters is to get the code from the victim,” Shcherbachenko said.

He advised to be wary if a new acquaintance suddenly started talking about money or asked for personal information. The expert recommended not to follow links from strangers, not to transfer money to them and immediately stop communicating.
