The Ministry of Health published statistics according to which the Leningrad region took one of the first places among Russian regions in terms of the lowest incidence of alcoholism. This was told by the Governor of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko.
The incidence rate is 13.0 cases per 100,000 people. This is 3.2 times less than the national average and 3.8 times less than in the Northwestern Federal District. During the year, the primary incidence of narcological disorders, including alcoholism, was 14.3, which is lower than the national and district indicators.
Let me remind you that earlier we were recognized as the region with the lowest incidence of alcoholism in Russia by the end of 2024. This is the “last” place, which is not to be ashamed of, – said the head of the region.
According to the Committee of law and order and security, for the third year in a row, the number of crimes committed intoxicated.
What work do professionals do to achieve these results?
Employees of the narcological service of the Leningrad region conduct it in several directions:
Attracting people with narcological diseases to programs of long-term rehabilitation and resocialization, both inpatient and semi-stationary conditions. They actively cooperate with social service centers;
working with relatives of patients: increasing their awareness of the consequences of drug addiction, teaching methods of psychological support and monitoring of loved ones to prevent relapse, as well as helping to overcome codependency.
According to Drozdenko, the region is striving to increase the number of people who regularly engage in sports and physical activity. The goal is to reach 70% by 2030. For this purpose, sports facilities are constantly being built, reconstructed and overhauled.
In the Leningrad region also launched the program “Active longevity”. It includes educational, cultural, creative activities, sports activities and volunteer activities. By the end of 2025, 61.8% of the region’s elderly people participate in this program, which is more than 245 thousand people.
“Behind our statistics are children who have not seen drunk parents, families who have not broken up. These are people who chose sobriety and got a second chance. To be last on this list is to be first where it really matters. But it is too early to relax: behind each figure is a person who can still be helped. And we will continue this work, the head of the Leningrad region concluded.
