The CIS heads of state adopted a statement in connection with the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth at the summit in Turkmenistan on October 9. The document summed up the results of the organization's activities and identified key tasks for the future, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.
The historic choice of the countries in favor of joint efforts has fully justified itself. In the context of increasing complexity of international processes and reducing the effectiveness of many global multilateral mechanisms, the CIS has proved its relevance as a flexible tool for interaction.
The priority areas of cooperation are trade, transport, ICT, science, education, culture and youth exchanges. The statement of the heads of state also states the intention to increase production cooperation ties, increase economic security and minimize the consequences of external shocks.
- Humanitarian cooperation is an effective means of strengthening trust, mutual understanding and friendship between the CIS member states. The most important role in humanitarian cooperation is played by the Russian language as the language of interethnic and interstate communication, the statement said.
The leaders of the countries confirmed their readiness to develop cooperation in the social sphere, as well as in the field of security, prevention and elimination of the consequences of emergency situations. The CIS will continue to promote the formation of a new architecture of Eurasian security on the basis of the UN Charter, international law and the principle of equal and indivisible security for all states of the Eurasian space.
A separate statement at the summit is dedicated to preserving the historical memory of the Victory of the peoples of the Commonwealth in the Great Patriotic War. The document aims to unite the CIS countries around preventing distortion of key historical events and involves the development of cooperation in the field of history, culture, education and archival affairs.
