President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko supported the recent decision to build a high-speed highway from Moscow to Minsk. He said this at a meeting with the Chairman of PJSC "PSB Bank" Peter Fradkov, the correspondent of the agency "Minsk-Novosti".
- I know your patriotic feelings and attitude towards Russia. But we have a common homeland, as I often say, from Vladivostok to Brest. Belarus should not be a stranger to you. Moreover, I very positively received the recent decision taken in Russia to build a high-speed highway from Moscow to Minsk, Alexander Lukashenko said. This is very interesting for our people. In recent years, Belarusian citizens have begun to visit Russia and its capital. I already call this a pilgrimage by some Belarusians to Moscow. Especially young people.
- Let us work together so that our people can always be together. And so that there never arose on one side or the other – in Minsk or Moscow – talk that our peoples can somehow be torn apart.
The Moscow-Minsk High-Speed Railway (HSR) is a planned specialized two-track electrified line for trains with speeds from 200 to 400 km/h, which will reduce travel time between the capitals from seven to nine to three hours.
The principal decision to start working on this project was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 15, 2026. Belarus and Russia signed an official memorandum on cooperation in the design and construction of HSR on October 1, 2026 at a meeting of the Union State Council of Ministers in Minsk.
