Excavator driver will be tried for the death of an employee on a career in Karelia

In the Pitkärant district, an investigation into the death of an employee at an industrial facility has been completed. The materials have gone to court.

In the dock will be a 45-year-old machinist excavator. He is accused of violating industrial safety requirements, which resulted in the death of a person by negligence.

The tragedy occurred on October 25, 2025 on the territory of the quarry during refueling equipment. According to the Investigative Committee for Karelia, the driver started the movement of a heavy car, not being convinced of the absence of people in the danger zone. As a result, the employee driving the fuel tanker was sandwiched between the excavator bucket and the fuel tank. From his injuries, the man died on the spot.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that the quarry is a dangerous production facility, and the driver did not have the necessary category to control tracked self-propelled machines and should not have been allowed to these works.
